  • What forms of payment can I use?

We accept checks and all major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

  • Is a solar roof more costly than a standard roof replacement?

Yes, solar is generally more expensive than a standard roof replacement. The cost of adding solar energy to your home will depend on several factors, primarily the size of your roof and the number of solar shingles we can install to effectively capture energy.

  • Are rack-mounted solar systems more affordable than solar shingles?

The short answer is yes; however, it's important to highlight that the Timberline Solar ES™ Shingles we install are not in the same category as traditional rack-mounted solar panels.

Our solar shingle roofs offer an industry-leading warranty and enhance your home’s curb appeal. Maintaining your home’s aesthetics not only adds value but can also translate into real financial gains at the time of resale.

  • Which components of the solar roof qualify for the 30% tax credit?

With our GAF Solar Roofing Shingle systems, which are fully integrated into your roof, the entire cost of your roof replacement qualifies for the 30% tax benefit. In contrast, with rack-mounted systems, only the racks and panels themselves are eligible for the tax credit.

  • What solar roofing systems can I compare with the GAF solar shingle roof?

Our solar roofing system is most comparable to the Tesla Solar Roof, appealing to homeowners who prioritize both aesthetics and technology.

GAF solar shingles represent a perfect blend of form and function. In terms of pricing, the Timberline Solar ES™ Shingles are 50% less expensive upfront than similarly sized Tesla Solar Roof systems.

Both our customers and Tesla customers seek a solar solution that is less intrusive to the roof and more visually appealing than traditional rack-mounted solar panels, while also being optimized for better energy capture.

  • What is the payback period for a solar investment?

The solar payback period is the duration it takes for property owners who install solar panels to recoup their initial investment through savings on electricity bills.

  • How much savings can I expect, and what is the return on investment?

Generally, the more electricity you consume, the more you can save by installing a solar power system.

While a larger system may require a higher upfront cost, it can also reduce a greater portion of your electricity bill, leading to increased savings and a quicker return on investment.

During our project planning and estimation process, we evaluate various scenarios to provide our customers with a comprehensive understanding of the system’s total cost, including any available solar incentives and deductions.

We also aim to present projected savings and the anticipated return on investment for the system, helping homeowners make informed decisions about investing in solar power.

  • Will installing a solar roof increase my home’s value?

Studies have shown that adding solar can boost the value of a home by several percentage points, equating to tens of thousands of dollars for the average home.

Solar roofing shingles are the only home improvement that adds value without adding extra taxes, thanks to the solar property tax abatement.

  • What type of warranty is provided with a solar roof?

The Timberline Solar ES™ Shingles include a limited warranty that covers 25 years against manufacturing defects that cause leaks, 15 years against wind damage from winds up to 130 mph, and 25 years for solar power output.

This warranty requires no registration or additional cost.

Furthermore, when installed by a GAF Certified Contractor, you can purchase an enhanced warranty and solar addendum to cover both the roof and solar components under a single warranty.

  • How does the GAF Timberline solar shingle differ from the Tesla solar roof?

First, it's important to highlight that both the GAF Timberline Solar Shingle system and the Tesla Solar Roof promote ecological sustainability, marking significant steps toward a greener future in energy generation.

Regarding installation, both systems necessitate the installation of a new roof rather than retrofitting an existing one. Unlike outdated rack-mounted solar panels, GAF Solar Shingles and the Tesla Solar Roof are integrated into the roofing system itself.

Now, let’s explore the key differences between these two solar roofing systems.

To begin, the installation process for GAF Timberline Solar Shingles is surprisingly similar to that of conventional asphalt shingles.

The entire installation is completed within the same timeframe as a standard roof installation, which is a significant advantage. Additionally, the GAF Timberline Solar system consists of both traditional asphalt shingles and solar energy shingles.

The solar energy shingles offer the same protection and durability as conventional asphalt shingles while generating electricity from sunlight to power your home. This combination of roofing materials enhances both the aesthetic appeal and energy efficiency of your home.

In contrast, the Tesla Roof requires replacing the entire roof with Tesla tiles, a process that can take several days to weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the roof structure.

As with most projects, a complex roof with numerous valleys or awkward pitches will increase the overall cost.

  • Can Timberline Solar™ be installed around roof features like vents, chimneys, and skylights?

Installing Timberline Solar™ on a roof with obstructions such as vents, chimneys, skylights, and satellite dishes may be feasible. It ultimately depends on how significantly these obstructions impact the installation process and whether relocating or removing them is practical and preferred.

  • How does shading from surrounding structures affect a solar roofing installation?

Solar power works by capturing sunlight and converting it into energy. As a result, if a solar power module is blocked from sunlight, it won't function effectively. This is why many solar roofing systems, like Timberline Solar™, require optimal sunlight exposure.

  • How can I monitor production with my Timberline Solar™ system?

Timberline Solar™ customers can access the GAF Energy homeowner portal to monitor clean energy production. This solar roof monitoring system provides customers with direct access to data, making it easier to identify any potential issues quickly.

  • How far does Timberline Solar™ protrude from the roof?

A Timberline Solar™ roof consists of two types of shingles installed together to form a complete solar roof: the Timberline Solar Energy Shingle™ (ES) and the Timberline Solar HDZ™ Shingle. The Timberline Solar Energy Shingle™ (ES) is the world’s first nailable solar energy shingle.

  • Is Timberline Solar™ comparable to a Tesla solar roof?

No, Timberline Solar™ is a roofing system that seamlessly integrates solar technology with traditional, lighter-weight roofing materials and processes. This innovative system features a nailable solar shingle known as the Timberline Solar Energy Shingle™ (ES).
